KLAUS PHILIPSEN, FAIA, LEED APis owner and founder of 22 year old ArchPlan Inc, a small firm in Baltimore consulting on urban reinvestment through planning and design of infill, adaptive reuse preservation and transportation projects. Klaus Philipsen has used his professional skills over his entire 37 year career for urban revitalization, public transportation and managed growth. He brought traffic calming to Stuttgart, Germany and helped shaping Maryland’s nationally recognized smart growth policies, the renaissance of Baltimore and has been a consultant on major urban transit projects including the $2.9 billion Red Line currently in design.
Philipsen received a master's degree of architecture in Stuttgart, Germany in 1975. He has also worked as an architect and planner in Stuttgart, Germany and London, England and resides in the US since 1986. He has taught architecture and urban design as adjunct faculty at the University of Maryland and at Morgan State University, writes the blog Community Architect, is a frequent speaker at national, regional and local conventions and events and is a regular contributor to local radio and newspapers regarding urban design.
